When a driver accidentally put AdBlue into his diesel tank on the Isle of Bute, he feared the worst. After driving only a few hundred yards, his vehicle cut out completely, leaving him stranded and worried that he could be facing an expensive engine repair or even a replacement vehicle.

The Incident
The customer had only owned the vehicle since December and was still getting used to its AdBlue system. In fact, he had only ever topped up the AdBlue twice before.
During a busy morning, he mistakenly poured approximately six litres of AdBlue into the diesel fuel tank. After driving a few hundred yards, the vehicle lost power and came to a stop. He managed to pull safely into a layby before realising what had happened.

A Vehicle With Recent AdBlue Repairs
Adding to the customer’s concern was the fact that the vehicle had already undergone significant emissions-system repairs shortly after purchase.
Just 12 weeks earlier, the vehicle had received a brand-new AdBlue tank and new injectors after an additive warning light appeared. This was the first time he had personally topped up the AdBlue system since those repairs had been completed.
The customer still had around ten months remaining on his warranty. However, when he contacted the warranty provider, he was advised that the vehicle would need to be recovered and transported to a dealership for assessment and repair, potentially leaving him without transport for an extended period.
As he needed the vehicle back on the road as quickly as possible, he began looking for an alternative solution.
