Driving this Autumn

autumn

With autumn fast upon us it’s time to once again take a look at our driving conditions and habits. There are a number of factors to consider when hitting the road this autumn. Take a look and make sure you don’t fall foul to any of the following:

1. Low Sun:

As we get closer to winter you will notice that the sun gets consistently lower in the sky. This can often be a source of irritation for motorists as its glare can reduce visibility.
Ensure your windscreen is clear and clean – both inside and out – as smudges, smears and deposits can drastically increase the amount of glare. Keep you windscreen washers topped up and use them frequently. Also make good use of both sun visors – not just on the driver’s side. And be sure to keep a good pair of sunglasses handy. Also make sure all your lights are working as the low sun can make you harder to see. Check all your lights and use them.

2. Battery Power:

Probably the most common breakdown cause is a flat battery. And with the coming cold you will see your battery usage markedly increased.
Have your battery checked and make sure it’s in tip-top shape for the coming months.

3. Leaves on the Road:

Excessive leaves on the roads can make them very slippery. Make sure your tyres are in good shape with at least 3mm of tread all around them. This can help mitigate the risk of skidding on slippery roads.

4. Antifreeze:

Now is the time to start looking at your antifreeze levels. Temperatures can drop quickly during the night. Don’t get caught out with no antifreeze in your car.
