Why choose Fuel Fixer

We are an international fuel draining and decontamination business, and the most technologically advanced one in the field. Our engineers carry Gespasa European pump technology, the best in the industry.

Gespasa ATEX transfer pumpEuropean technology

It clears the tank and the fuel lines in minutes, self-priming and explosion-proof, with a recirculation bypass so the flow stays controlled throughout. Anti-rust treated, because it goes near your paintwork.

What that means for you

  • Tank and lines cleared in minutes, not hours
  • Controlled suction, so nothing in the fuel system is stressed
  • Certified for explosive atmospheres, safe on a live forecourt
  • Quiet enough to work outside a house at night

What older pumps do

  • Drag on for hours while you wait at the roadside
  • Risk damage to the pump, lines and injectors
  • Loud enough to be a problem in a residential street
  • Often need the vehicle recovered instead

We are already in your area

Our engineers live and work in these towns, so the van sets off from your area rather than from a depot at the other end of the country.

Why water in a fuel tank is its own job

Water contaminated fuel is not a misfuel, and it does not behave like one. We drain it, dry the system and get you running, at the roadside.

Water sinks, it does not mixDiesel and petrol both float on water, so it collects at the lowest point of the tank and gets drawn straight into the pickup.
It corrodes what it sits inLeft in place it rusts steel lines and pump internals, and in diesel it feeds the bacterial growth people call diesel bug.
Symptoms come and goMisfiring, loss of power, rough running, cutting out and refusing to restart. It often runs fine until the water reaches the pickup.
Every source, same answerRain water in a fuel tank, condensation, a bad batch from the pump, a split filler or someone putting water in deliberately. It all has to come out.

The questions everyone asks

What happens if water gets in your fuel tank?
Water does not burn and does not lubricate. It sinks below the fuel and sits at the bottom of the tank, which is exactly where the pickup draws from, so the pump pulls water instead of fuel. The engine misfires, loses power and eventually stops. Left in place it corrodes the lines and the pump internals.
Water in fuel tank what to do?
Do not start the engine. If it is running, stop it. Every crank draws more water through the filter, pump and injectors. Ring us and stay with the vehicle.
Water in diesel tank what to do?
The same three steps. Water in diesel fuel sinks and collects at the pickup, and in a diesel it also feeds the bacterial growth people call diesel bug, so the sooner it comes out the less there is to clean up. Do not start the engine.
What about water in a petrol tank?
Same principle. Petrol floats on water too, so it gathers at the lowest point of the tank and gets drawn straight in. Water in petrol tank symptoms are stumbling under load, misfiring and cutting out.
What are the water in fuel tank symptoms?
Misfiring, hesitation, loss of power, rough idling, sudden cutting out and then refusing to restart. It often runs normally until the water reaches the pickup, which is why it seems to come from nowhere.
Water in fuel tank car wont start. Is that it?
It is a common cause, especially after heavy rain, a long spell parked or a fill from a suspect pump. If it cranks but will not fire, or fired briefly then died, water in the fuel tank is worth ruling out before anything gets replaced.
How to remove water from fuel tank?
We drain the tank, take the water and contaminated fuel away, flush the lines and the filter, then refill with clean fuel and run it through. Done at the roadside, on a driveway or in a yard, and you drive away the same visit.
How to get water out of fuel tank yourself?
On a modern car you cannot. There is no drain plug on most tanks and siphoning does not reach the bottom where the water sits. It needs the tank drained properly and the lines flushed, which is the part that stops it returning.
Can you drain water from fuel tank at the roadside?
Yes, that is the whole service. Water in fuel tank removal happens where the vehicle stands, with no tow and no garage bill. About thirty minutes on site for most cars.
I have water in my fuel tank. Where did it come from?
Usually rain water in fuel tank cases through a perished filler seal or a cap left off, condensation in fuel tank build-up on a vehicle that sits, or a bad batch from a pump. Occasionally someone put water in the fuel tank deliberately. It all comes out the same way.
Someone put water in my fuel tank. What now?
Do not start the engine, because that carries it into the fuel system. We drain, flush and refill, and the engineer report is there if you need it for insurance or the police.
Water in AdBlue tank, is that different?
AdBlue is already a urea and water solution, so extra water dilutes it below the concentration the SCR system needs. The dash warns, the vehicle derates and eventually will not restart. It still has to be drained and refilled correctly.
What does water in fuel tank repair cost?
It depends on the vehicle, where you are and how much has to come out, so we give you the figure on the phone before an engineer sets off. How much to remove water from fuel tank is the first thing most callers ask, and the call itself is free.
Is there a water in fuel tank service near me?
Almost certainly. Thirty-four branches across the UK and Ireland, so the van sets off from your area rather than a depot at the other end of the country. Average arrival about 46 minutes, and we run as a water in fuel tank breakdown service 24 hours a day.
Do you attend vans, HGVs and fleets?
Yes. Water contaminated fuel is common in vehicles that sit between jobs, in plant and in agricultural machinery. Roadside, yard or depot, with a VAT invoice and engineer report for fleet records.
Where do you cover?
The whole of the UK and Ireland, from thirty-four branches. England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
