Audi

Audi’s have a fair share of misfuelings, they have some fantastic diesel engines and are becoming very popular, here’s a short piece on how to fix the a misfuelled AUDI.

A3, has the same under bench tank system as a golf, so if you have misfueled an audi, and not driven it, simply yank up the back seat bench – which unclips, and unscrew the tank cover, you can then directly access the tank and drain the fuel from the audi – without having to go to an audi main dealer for wrong fuel removal

Hi I misfuelled by putting petrol into my 2008 1.3 tdci corsa because the petrol station decided it would be a good idea to put a black handle on an unleaded petrol pump!!! Now my car won't start and blows out tons of white smoke. I have had the car drained/flushed by the AA (before I found this site). However the car is still blowing white smoke and still won't start. What do you think is the likely cause of this? I am considering changing the fuel filter but I am clutching at straws. Any suggestion will be extremely welcome. Thanks

Hi Franco, The likely problem is that the fuel drain was either not done correctly, or not done completely. The indicators that you mention would suggest that there is still petrol in the car. How much petrol did you put in? How long did you drive it after the misfuel? Personally, I would get the AA back out to sort the problem out correctly, especially as they charge an arm and a leg for their Fuel Assist service. As for changing the filter, have a look at this page. The Fuel Man

mums eh.. who'd have em? Corsa, disconeect the feed pipe to the fuel fump and crank the key from o to just before starting position, you should get out a cup full at a time, rinse and repeat and you will empty it, keep in mind the ABC's A) your battery might start to die so Keep jump leads handy B) when its empty fill it with clean diesel and turn the key 3 more time to clean the pipes C) mum's come in useful, dont put her in a home just yet, a well domesticated mum can clean, cook, do the washing and attend to a myriad of chores

Hi......my husband (shamed to admit) said he put 10 of petrol into our Audi A3 1.9 TDI Sport and then filled up with Diesel, to make it a full tank. Said it will do it good and clean everything out, as he said he noticed it was not it's usual zippy self. We then went on a hour journey onto the M62 Westbound and then same journey back, all seems ok. But still sceptical, and both my dad and brother in law said what a load of rubbish it will not do it good....and i am on my own all week it as had some spluttering and yesterday it would not start first time, did on the 2nd? Help any advice? And is it good or bad? He said he does this on his VWT4 van so once a month would not harm it??? HELP! Thanks :-)

Hi, sounds like you might want to have a fuel drain done on that, some cars are more touchy about it than others, I dont want to say your husband is wrong..... but

Hi, i have an 05 mazda 6 diesel and i'm not sure if i put petrol in it, i topped up 40 as normal and drove it about 8 miles home, it did feel slightly lumpy at low speed, but when i put my foot down it was ok, nearly home the engine started sounding noisy and when i got back it wouldn,t start straight away and when it did start it ticked over ok, but when i revved the engine it juddered and sounded loud...with a large puff of white smoke, as i say, i dont know if i put petrol in, sounds stupid i know, but i was kinda on auto pilot!!....would these symptons be a fuel mix up????

Hi Jon, yes that sounds like youve put the wrong fuel in, when an engine is already warm it can just about cope - which yours did, but they will not start from cold with the wrong fuel, a fuel drain on that is a straight forward job for a fuel mechanic

Hi Kevin, no photos of x5 fuel system but if you unbolt the plastic engine cowling you will see the fuel lines,on the tank is the silver strap round? - if it is then needs quite a hefty smack to unscrew, I use a very large screwdriver and a rubber mallet, hit it hard (man hard) and it will untwist, call me on the phone if you run into trouble with it
